Summer Activity Series

The Summer Activity Series features hands-on, topic related activities throughout the museum for all ages.

Topics:

June 9-12 Dinosaurs: Jaws & Claws
Take a trip back to the age of dinosaurs! Examine and compare teeth, claws, and footprints and learn how paleontologists use indirect evidence to study these ancient animals.

June 16-19 Wild Whales
Learn about the Museum's oldest whale specimen, compare toothed and non-toothed whales, listen to whale sounds and experience how large a life sized whale truly is!

June 23-26 Fire & Ice
Learn about Alaska's coldest and hottest geologic structures. Examine Glacier
Goo, conduct iceberg experiments, touch interesting volcanic rocks and watch
an explosive demonstration.

July 7-10 Dinosaurs: Tiny & Huge
Learn the habits of the tiniest dinosaurs and compare them to the largest.
Learn about some of Alaska's ancient polar dinosaurs and see how you measure
up.

July 14-17 Mission Mars
Do you have what it takes to live on Mars? Come learn what the Martian
landscape is all about and the obstacles your body would have to overcome to be
the first to walk on the red planet.

July 21-24 Pet Rock
They're back! Come adopt a rock from the museum. Learn how your "new" pet rock
was born, and how it grew up. You will have a chance to customize and name your
rock along with a personalized birth certificate!

July 28-31 Unlikely Predators
So you think you know how to identify a predator? Not so fast. Come learn
about the museum's collection of not-so-obvious killers.

August 4-7 Dinosaurs: Feathers & Scales
We may never know the true colors of the dinosaurs, but we know they had scales
and feathers. Join the museum in discovering the earliest feathered dinosaurs
and examine fossils of dinosaur scales.

August 11-14 Weird, Wild & Wacky
Come see some of the strangest objects in the museum's collection. These
objects are not often on display and they definitely are not found in Alaska.
