Gold Rush Era Archaeology in Alaska

Historical Archaeology at the Old Knik Townsite, Wasilla, Alaska

Archaeology Field School Sponsored by the
University of Alaska Anchorage and Mat-Su Borough

During the past 10 years, excavation of the Old Knik Townsite has revealed evidence of the interaction between early Gold Rush era Euro-American settlers and Dena’ina Native Alaskan residents.

Join us during 2006 to help excavate the remains of a traditional Athabaskan chief’s house.

Field school students will receive training in all aspects of excavation, survey, and field laboratory techniques applicable to historical archaeological sites. Field lectures will be given in artifact analysis, faunal analysis, and
geoarchaeology.
