Guess Log>

by: Julie Ball, (1998) Soldotna, Alaska

The teacher can read sections of the story aloud. Then there will be a chance to guess what the fossil is. The students write on a guess sheet log what their guess is and why they think so. They must then do research to support their guess (hypothesis). Research can be done directly on the web site or from their own resources. The teacher then reads the next section. This section gives more clues. The students revamp their hypothesis (if necessary) and fill out another entry in their guess logs, and do more research. This goes on until enough clues are given to identify the fossil or decide that the fossil can not be identified.
